Wine
Cellar Design
An
integral part of any wine cellar,
wine cellar design determines not only how many bottles you
can fit into your wine cellar, but also the look, feel, and
effectiveness of the cellar.
The
first and arguably most important aspect of wine cellar design
is climate control; a wine cellar absolutely must have climate
controls to keep humidity, temperature within an acceptable
range. However, most people keep wines that require different
temperature, necessitating some type of refrigeration. In
this case, make sure your wine cellar design accounts for
both red and white wines and the different needs of each by
leaving room for a refrigerator.
Wine cellar design may also take into account organization
of wine. For those with larger rooms, or just for those who
like to keep their wine organized, you may choose to divide
your collection by age, white, brand, or any other designation.
To help you determine which is which, wine cellar design may
physically separate the different categories.
Included in wine cellar design is the type of wood or metal
used to build the wine racks. There are many types of wood
from which to choose, including Redwood, Western Red Cedar,
and Mahogany. However, it’s important to make sure that
the wood you select does not have a strong smell, as the odor
can influence the wine’s taste. On the other hand, you
may choose to include metal wine racks in your wine cellar
design. Although this version is less popular than wood racks,
many people choose metal for their wine cellar design because
of the unique style it adds.
Regardless of the layout or material you use to build your
wine cellar, don’t forget the most important part of
wine cellar design: making a wine cellar you like, enjoy,
and will use for years to come.
