Residential
Wine Cellar
Once
thought to be only for the super-rich, sommeliers, and restaurants,
wine cellars have quickly risen in popularity and accessibility,
resulting in the advent of the residential wine cellar. Unlike
the huge, thousand-bottle cellars of many restaurants, a residential
wine cellar is usually much smaller, storing anywhere from
a half dozen to a few hundred bottles of wine, depending on
the type of cellar.
Many
wine enthusiasts have a residential wine cellar that is more
of an appliance than a cellar. Similar to a miniature refrigerator,
these cellars plug into the wall and keep your wine at a constant,
controlled temperature and humidity. They come in many shapes
and sizes, as well as styles to fit virtually any décor.
Another
type of residential wine cellar is a bit more complex, and
this type is the basement or converted room cellar. In this
case, a basement or spare room is completely transformed into
a climate-controlled residential wine cellar, complete with
wine racks. Some people even incorporate murals to enhance
the feel of the cellar. While the benefits to this type of
residential wine cellar are numerous, the cost is substantially
higher than the appliance type.
When
considering which type of residential wine cellar is best
for you, think of not only any current wine collection, but
also any future additions. Do you plan to add to your collection?
If so, by how much? It is important to make sure that you
buy a residential wine cellar that not only fits your current
needs, but is flexible enough to handle any future needs.
Once
you’ve chosen which residential wine cellar suits you
best, sit back, relax, and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
